구해줘 Sauve-moi Save me
As a non-fiction lover, I hardly read fiction – I hadn’t read any fiction books for the past few years until I recently read Ian McEwan’s “Amsterdam”. When I visited my friend in June, I heard about the work ”Sauve-moi” by a French writer, Guillaume Musso, and I started reading the book just a week ago after having finished reading two pieces of non-fiction among the five books I ordered in late June.
Since I’m a slow reader and read books almost only when commuting, it normally takes a couple of weeks for me to finish a book. However, “Sauve-moi” took only a week to finish and I read most of the pages during this past weekend.
The story begins in the form of romace but as it proceeds, it incorporates a variety of characters that have their own stories and captures readers’ attention with questions related to the themes of destiny and decision. It is not an exaggeration to say it was a book that ‘one simply cannot put down.’ I hope to read this book again soon in its original language, French.
비소설 애호가로서 나는 소설을 거의 읽지 않는다. 최근에 이안 매큐언의 “암스테르담”을 읽기 전까지 몇 년간은 소설을 한 권도 읽지 않았다. 6월에 친구 집에 놀러 갔을 때 프랑스 작가인 기욤 뮈소의 “구해줘“를 알게 되었고, 6월 말에 주문한 다섯 권의 책 중 두 권을 먼저 읽고 난 다음에 1주일 전에야 이 책을 읽기 시작했다.
나는 원체 글을 느리게 읽고 거의 출퇴근할 때만 읽기 때문에, 책 한 권을 다 읽으려면 보통 몇 주가 걸린다. 하지만 “구해줘”는 다 읽는 데에 한 주만 걸렸고 대부분을 이번 주말에 읽었다.
이야기는 연애소설의 양상으로 시작하지만 점점 진행되면서 저마다의 사연을 가진 다양한 인물들이 등장하면서 독자들로 하여금 운명(숙명)과 결정에 관한 질문을 계속 던지게 한다. ‘단 한 순간도 손에서 뗄 수 없는 책’이라는 문구는 과장이 아니다. 이 책을 불어 원서로 곧 읽을 수 있기를 바라본다.

Torino n’est pas loin de la France (80km) et, quand j’etait un petit etudiant, la seul langue etranger etudiée a l’ecole il etait le Français. Aujourd’hui mon français… it’s for sure really poor and, in fact, I am not able to go on with these simply words in French (by the way my English spoken and written it’s quite far to be a *good* English). However French it’s quite well understood here around.

The fact that many European countries are directly connected to each other without oceans and seas and thus relatively free movements is quite beneficial to learning foreign languages.

Actually, French is not a hard language. Compared to Slavic languages. I hope to learn Russian.

8 August 2008, 4:57 amreading and writing. That you really wonder if you’re going to meet a French person and discuss about classic French literature. I think you’re capable of learning the language. You seem to be a very universal person.

Slavic languages.. already sound more difficult than French. Good luck with learning Russian. I also hope to learn a couple of more languages: Spanish and Chinese for practial reasons, and Dutch for fun.
I had a language exchange with a French girl and I couldn’t really follow her when she spoke.:S As in any languages, listening is the most difficult for me. I’ve learned that language is a great asset to achieving more opportunities that could arise any time in one’s life and thus leading to a better understanding of the world. I think this is also one of the reasons you want to learn foreign languages.
