永眠 Eternal Rest
누군가가 강하다고 할 때,
실은 그 사람이 정말 강한 것이 아니라
그가 강하길 바라는 것 뿐일 수 있다.
타인으로서 그 사람에게 건 기대가 무너졌다고 해서
그 사람을 약한 사람이라 할 수 있는가?
강했다기 보다는
강해야만 했던 한 사람을 보내며
오늘 처음으로 뜨거운 눈물을 흘렸다.
When we say that someone is strong,
he or she may not be strong in fact
but it is only that we want them to be strong.
When they did not come up to our expectations, which we had of them as the others,
can we call them a weak person?
Watching a person leave,
who had to be strong rather than being strong himself,
today I cried my first tears for him.

1 June 2009, 1:57 pmI was so shocked and I felt i felt like I lost someone who I personally have known. So sad.. every comedy program was not on TV until 5/29..
Maybe this public sadness will stay for a while..
By the way, how are you? I hope we can meet up some day with Park and talk hours!!

Eli – Thank you. The whole country was in sadness last week and his death is such a big loss in many ways.
Sejin – I think, since you got married, we’re gonna have much more things to talk about than ever! I so much look forward to seeing you all together and, for now, I think we could make it when I go to Korea during Lunar New Year’s Day seasons. Miss you and take good care!

너무 너무 슬퍼서 지난 2주 동안 계속 훌쩍였어.
내가 처음으로 투표해서 뽑은 대통령이셨는데…아마 우리 또래 대부분 그러지 않았을까?
수원역 분향소에 갔는데 영정 사진을 보고만 있어도 그냥 눈물이 나더라.
끝까지 믿어드리지 못해서 살짝 의심해서 너무너무 죄송했어.
마음 속에서 영원히 살아계실거야.

Fabrizio – Thank you for your big compliment. I was looking for some images for this post and the one I chose had the best graphic effect. Among the words drawing his face, they are hope, dream, justice, communication, democracy, common sense, human rights and so on.
I don’t know much about politics but I just sympathised with him, who had to carry a heavy burden of expectation on his shoulders. My case cannot be really compared to his, but quite sometimes I want to shout out, “I’m not as strong as you think, I just have to be!”
